SUMMER HEAT

In the Summer heat

of a Summer's night
evening lays moist

on the dark, dry earth
cicada's song rings
cutting black
piercing the night
bright lights stay hidden
behind silhouetted
trees
wooden planks
concrete slabs
a baby's cry
interrupts the silence
in the sweltry evening
in the Summer's heat
a mother's touch
comforts a hungry child
in the Summer night
of a ghetto street
