Ballad of Old Haunting...

I sat on a hill
when dark nights were cold
the wind whistled gaily
and the trees smelt of old
There, once in a winter
came a long ballad haunting
it sang its sad song
on an evening so daunting
The lyric rang boldly
through branches and leaves
that drifted so sweetly
in the cool evening breeze
A tale of a calling
from village and valley
of a handsome, young captain
on his ship in a galley
It spoke of a lady
dressed in crimson and lace
with slim, slender hands
and a fare, rounded face
Young lovers were they
only recently wed,
'I'll never forsake you'
the young captain said
'Although I have traveled
the whole world wide
I have taken you only
to be my young bride'
Then kissing her lightly
upon her soft brow
he gestured to say,
'I''ll be leaving you now'
She looked at him longing
forever it seemed
His shining, dark eyes
sparkled and beamed
And with that he left
on his ship with first mate
She stood by the Port
to eagerly wait...
him slipping and sailing
away from the view
her eyes searching far
but somehow she knew
'You'll never come back
I'll see you no more'
She watched the ship vanish
completely from shore...
Three months had long passed
he never returned

With anticipation
she simmered and burned
Alas, that black day
a word of the discover
the fatal remains
of her handsome, young lover...
A storm came and tipped
the young captain from deck
the keel was all weathered
and vessel was wrecked
Crept from the fathomless,
bottomless deep
the young bride was left
to weep and weep
'Love can be lost
as well as it is found'
she threw herself down
in the sand on the ground
From out of the ocean
a pitiless wave
took all there away
not one man was saved
The ship had been tossed
and toppled by sea
charted by ocean
from the wind in the lea
His body stayed limp
on the shore where he lie
she cursed to herself
'Now I know how to die'
His lips were all pale
his body lay still
There was not a pulse
nor was there a will
She placed her arm gently
beneath his cold head
there was no reply
her young lover was dead
The perilous sea
swallowed body and bones
left lifeless and stiff
cold as tomb stones
'I'll follow his heart
from sea to the Sun
grief brings back the tide
now our voyage is done'..
